This no-fuss Air Fryer Omelet recipe makes breakfast on those busy mornings a breeze! Each one has a light, fluffy texture, and can be customized with all of your favorite fresh veggies, breakfast meats, and cheeses. Ready in just 8-10 minutes, it’s truly the perfect easy breakfast option!

If you’re always on the look-out for quick and satisfying egg recipes, you’ll want to try my favorite Omelet in a Mug and this High-Protein Egg Scramble with Quinoa. Both of those recipes are great on their own but you can also round them out using your air fryer with a side of Air Fryer Turkey Bacon. So easy!

What is an Air Fryer Omelet?

Mornings can feel rushed, and it’s a huge help to have recipes that come together quickly. Eggs are great for this since they cook so quickly, and omelets are especially filling and satisfying!

Making them in a regular pan works, but you still have to baby it to make sure everything turns out just right. The air fryer is a total game-changer for taking the stress out of omelet making.

The egg mixture bakes in a buttered pan for a few minutes, then you add some cheese and bake until it melts. Fold it in half, add any of your favorite veggies or fillings, and serve.

Why You’ll Love this Easy Air Fryer Omelet Recipe

  • Effortless: The air fryer takes the mystery out of how to make a perfect fluffy omelet. Plus, it’s lightning quick and nearly hands-off, so you can spend time preparing the rest of your delicious breakfast.
  • Minimal mess: No messy or burnt frying pans to wash – just rinse the baking dish and you’re good to go.
  • Uses simple ingredients: There’s nothing complicated here. You just need some basic ingredients, like eggs, butter, and milk, plus any of your favorite toppings.

Air Fryer Omelet Ingredients

  • Butter: Just a smidge for flavor and to keep your omelet from sticking.
  • Eggs: Obviously, these are key for making omelets! I usually use large eggs.
  • Heavy cream or whole milk: For a little creaminess. For extra richness, use a little sour cream instead.
  • Salt and black pepper
  • Fresh herbs: To season the eggs, plus a little more for garnish. Basil, cilantro, thyme (pictured here), green onions or chives would work well, too.
  • Cheese: I like using shredded cheddar cheese, but you use any of your favorite melty cheeses.
All of the ingredients needed to make omelets in the air fryer.

How to Make an Air Fryer Omelet

It’s so easy to make this omelet in an air fryer. It may even become your favorite way, especially if you are only making one or two omelettes. Check out the recipe card at the bottom of this post for full instructions and ingredient amounts.

Step one of the process, butter in a metal baking dish.
STEP 1: Butter a 6-inch non-stick baking dish or cake pan. Set aside.
Step two is a bowl of cracked eggs with heavy cream or milk.
STEP 2: In a medium bowl, add eggs and cream. Whisk vigorously until eggs are frothy.
Fresh herbs, salt and pepper added to whisked eggs.
STEP 3: Stir in the salt, pepper, and fresh herbs.
Egg mixture added to the baking pan and put in the air fryer to cook.
STEP 5: Pour egg mixture into the buttered baking dish. Carefully place the pan into the air fryer basket. Turn on air fryer and cook omelet.

STEP 7: Sprinkle on cheese (and any cooked toppings) and cook a couple more minutes. Remove the pan from the air fryer and flip the omelet onto a plate. Fold the omelet in half and add a sprinkle of fresh herbs if desired.

Tips for Success

  • Choose the right baking pan: Make sure that your baking dish is the right size. If you use a small pan, your omelet may not cook evenly or all the way through.
  • Line the pan well: Eggs are notorious for clinging to the side of the baking dish, which can be messy to remove. Butter the baking dish well to simplify clean-up.
  • Whisk thoroughly: The more you whisk your eggs, the lighter and fluffier your omelet will be!
  • Cook any add-ins separately: This easy egg recipe is all about cooking the eggs for the omelet and unless the add-ins can cook in just a few minutes, they need to be fully cooked. This includes meats, veggies, and more.

Recipe Variations

  • Decrease fat and cholesterol: Instead of using the whole egg, use just the egg whites.
  • Change up the cheese: Try adding some Monterey jack, cream cheese, feta cheese, or smoked gouda.
  • Go for less oil: Instead of lightly buttering the baking tray, use a mist of non-stick cooking spray. You can also purchase a silicone liner if you want to make these omelets all the time.
  • Mix it up: The best omelets are soft, fluffy, and filled your favorite flavors, and there are lots of delicious options to choose from. Fill the folded omelet with cooked green bell peppers, cherry tomatoes, bacon bits, breakfast sausage, and more.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will it really take just 7-8 minutes to air fry an omelet?

Yes and no. While this is a general guideline based on air fryer cooking times (and lots of experimenting!), check the instructions on your specific air fryer for recommendations. The size of your eggs, amount/type of fillings, and size of your baking pan will all contribute to the cooking time.

How will I know when my omelet is done?

If the edges look set, you can gently insert a fork or butter knife into the center of the omelet to check for doneness. If it’s still runny and needs an extra minute, just cook a bit more.

How do you make multiple omelets in the air fryer?

If you are hosting a brunch and want to make a bunch of omelets at once, it might actually be easiest to switch to a regular oven with a convection setting. It will still rotate the hot air, like the air fryer, but you can easily add a bunch of baking dishes at once. This would make a fun holiday breakfast tradition with everyone adding their favorite toppings!

How to Store & Reheat

How to refrigerate? Let any leftover omelettes cool to room temperature then transfer to an airtight container and refrigerate for 1-2 days.

How do you reheat? To reheat the next day, set your omelet in the air fryer and cook at 250-300°F for 1-3 minutes (without any fillings). You can also microwave it for 1-2 minutes until piping hot.
