This Air Fryer Frittata makes an egg-cellent, protein-rich breakfast recipe that is healthy and simple. Made with diced ham, fresh green onions, tomatoes, and some gooey cheese, it’s ready in under 20 minutes.

Easy breakfast recipes are definitely needed in any home cooks repertoire! If you are looking for more breakfast ideas, try this High Protein Quinoa Egg Scramble, delicious! Or this Omelet in a Mug, it’s made in the microwave and is done in under 5 minutes with minimal clean-up.

Protein-Packed Breakfast

A breakfast that is high in protein and full of good fats is going to help you feel sustained and energized throughout the day.

This frittata is a healthy breakfast option that is full of protein and it’s perfect for a low carb diet since it is low in carbs, that is if you follow this recipe. One of the things I love most about this frittata is the flexibility to change up what goes inside.

Leftovers work exceptionally well, since any meat and most fresh vegetables need to be precooked before getting added. This one has quartered cherry tomatoes (or grape tomatoes), sliced green onions, salty ham, and cheese all mixed together with eggs for a perfect air fryer breakfast for busy mornings.

What is a Frittata?

If an omelet and a quiche got together and had a baby it would kind of be like a frittata! The only thing missing would be the crust of the quiche.

A frittata is an Italian-style egg dish that has basically any meats, vegetables, cheese or herbs that you desire get whipped into the eggs. There are so many options, check out the list below! The outcome is a thick and fluffy egg recipe that is perfect for any meal of the day including brunch or dinner!

Why You’ll love this Recipe

  • Quick to cook: Because we are cooking the frittata in the air fryer, it cooks more quickly than it would on the stove or in the oven. This saves you time especially on busy mornings.
  • Healthy breakfast: What’s not to love about feeding your family a healthy breakfast? This version uses less oil than other options.
  • Versatile: This is a very flexible egg dish. You can throw in just about any cooked vegetables or meats that you desire.

Air Fryer Frittata Ingredients

Here are the basic ingredients to make the frittata in an air fryer. Check out the recipe card at the bottom of the post for full ingredient amounts.

  • Eggs: Of course we need eggs in a frittata. I use 5 large eggs.
  • Cheese: You can use any good melting cheese, I use cheddar cheese, pepper jack cheese, or mozzarella. Or for less melty use goat cheese or feta cheese.
  • Ham: I like to buy the pre-cooked ham steaks and cut it into cubes. You can decide how big or small you make the dices of ham. Or you can use leftover ham from a whole ham that has been cooked.

Ingredient Options

If you would like to try other ingredients, here is a list of some great options you can add instead when making your frittata in the air fryer. It’s all personal preference so use your favorite ingredients. Just make sure that any vegetables or meats you use are pre-cooked beforehand.

  • Favorite Veggies – bell peppers, mushrooms, spinach, onion, olives, artichoke hearts, thinly sliced Brussels sprouts, potato, jalapeno, fresh herbs, sweet potato.
  • Meats – breakfast sausage, brats, chicken breast, bacon, Canadian bacon, steak.

How to Make Air Fryer Frittata

Here the basic step by step instructions to make this easy breakfast recipe. For the exact steps, cooking time and cooking temperature, see the recipe card.

STEP 1: Use cooking spray or a good layer of butter on an 8-inch cake pan or other 8-inch pan that fits in your air fryer. Keep in mind that what you cook the frittata in (size and material) will affect the cooking time, it may need more or less time. In a medium bowl, whisk together the eggs and heavy cream until fluffy.
STEP 2: Mix in the ham, cheese, tomatoes, green onions, salt, and black pepper.
STEP 3: Pour the egg mixture into the greased pan and carefully place into the air fryer basket.
STEP 4: Cook for 1 minute, then open the air fryer and stir the mixture. Close the air fryer and cook, cover the pan with aluminum foil. Close the air fryer and cook until the egg is cooked through and the center is set. Let the frittata rest for a couple minutes and serve. Garnish with sour cream, hot sauce, chopped green onion and tomatoes if desired.

Cooking Tips and Tricks

  • Don’t overcook the frittata or the eggs will get rubbery.
  • Use small tomatoes like the petite grape tomatoes or cherry, since these have less seeds. If you use large ones like beef-steak tomatoes, tomatoes on the vine, or heirloom tomatoes they will have to be sautéed first because they are very seedy and will make the frittata wet.
  • I use an 8-inch metal cake pan. I recommend using a pan that is at least 8 inches for the frittata to cook properly. If you use a glass pan it may need a little more time to cook.
  • Don’t get tempted to add too many extra ingredients to the eggs, we want a lot but not too much.

Recipe Variations

  • Try adding different seasonings such as dried thyme, Italian seasoning, chili powder, cumin, or garlic powder to make the flavor profile your own.
  • Make a variety of different frittatas from the list of ingredient options! You could make a vegetable frittata or an all meat one.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I make this frittata dairy free? You can switch out the heavy cream for a non-dairy alternative. However, keep in mind that the full fat dairy is what makes the eggs light and airy. So using something else will make the frittata a bit heavier and not as fluffy.

What do I cook the frittata in? You can use basically any pan that fits in your air fryer, but I highly recommend the largest size. Most 8-inch pans will work, but this will depend on the size of your air fryer. I recommend using a metal pan since it will cook faster and give you a crispier outside. If you use a pan that is 6 inches, it may greatly increase the cooking time.

If you use glass or silicone, you may need to cook the frittata longer. I use an 8-inch cake pan that was an accessory set to my air fryer. You can even make a “dish” out of parchment paper and cook the frittata in that. If you try it let me know how it turns out!

How to Store & Reheat

How to store it? Let the frittata cool and put in an airtight container. It should last about 3-4 days in the refrigerator. Reheat in the air fryer at 300 degrees F (150°C) for 2-3 minutes or in the microwave for 30 second increments until heated through.

Ingredients

  • 5 large eggs
  • 1 tablespoon plus 1 teaspoon heavy whipping cream or whole milk
  • 1/2 cup ham diced
  • 1/2 cup shredded cheese
  • 1/4 cup petite tomatoes about 8 cherry or grape, halved
  • 1/4 cup green onions about 2 small, sliced
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

Instructions

  • Preheat the air fryer to 360°F for 4 minutes.
  • Use cooking spray or a good layer of butter on an 8-inch cake pan, or other 8-inch dish that fits in your air fryer. Keep in mind that what you cook the frittata in (size and material) will affect the cooking time, it may need more or less time.
  • In a medium bowl, briskly whisk together the eggs and heavy cream until fluffy.
  • Mix in the ham, cheese, tomatoes, green onions, salt, and black pepper.
  • Pour the egg mixture into the greased pan and carefully place into the pre-heated air fryer basket.
  • Cook for 1 minute, then open the air fryer and stir the mixture.
  • Close the air fryer and cook for another 5 minutes. Open the air fryer and wrap the top of the pan with a small sheet of aluminum foil to keep the top from getting too brown (I use heat resistant gloves).
  • Close the air fryer and cook for 8-9 more minutes until the egg is cooked through and the center is set.
  • Let the frittata rest for a couple minutes and then serve. Garnish with sour cream, hot sauce, chopped green onion and tomatoes, if desired.

Notes

  • Try adding different seasonings such as dried thyme, Italian seasoning, chili powder, cumin, or garlic powder to make the flavor profile your own.
  • Make a variety of different frittatas from the list of ingredient options! You could make a vegetable frittata or an all meat one.
