Recipe Ingredients
- Butter: Two sticks, or one cup, of butter. For the best flavor, use unsalted butter.
- Powdered Sugar: This will sweeten the cookie dough and be used to coat the outside of the baked cookies.
- Vanilla Extract: Real vanilla extract adds the perfect amount of flavor to the cookies.
- Flour: Use all-purpose flour as the base of the cookies.
- Salt: You only need a pinch, or ⅛ a teaspoon, of salt.
- Chocolate Kisses: This is what sets these cookies apart from other snowball cookies. Use your favorite flavor or variety of chocolate kisses inside the center of each cookie.

How to Make Snowball Kiss Cookies
Here are the basic instructions to make snowball Kiss cookies. Check out the recipe card at the bottom of this blog post with full ingredients and instructions to make it.

Cooking Tips and Tricks
- Don’t overmix the cookie dough. As you add the flour, stop mixing when it is completely combined, not much longer.
- As you spread the cookie dough around the chocolate kiss, make sure it’s covered evenly on all sides.
- Add two coats of powdered sugar. The first coat will create the layer that sticks to the cookies and the second layer sticks to the first one.
Recipe Variations
- Make classic wedding cookies. Add a cup of ground pecans to the cookie dough to give them a nutty flavor and crumbly texture.
- Use different varieties of Hershey’s kisses. Use white chocolate, dark chocolate, or candy cane flavored kisses.
- Instead of vanilla extract, add mint extract. This will make them taste like peppermint candy canes.

Frequently Asked Questions
How can you tell when the cookies are fully baked? It is kind of tricky to tell when they’re done because you want them to be slightly undercooked. You’ll know they’re ready when the bottoms are slightly browned.
Can I leave the Hershey’s kisses out? Yes, you can make these cookies without the kisses in the middle. They will still look like snowballs and taste like a basic cookie.
How to Store & Reheat
How to store them? Store the snowball cookies in an airtight container. Keep them at room temperature in a dark place like the pantry. They will stay fresh for about a week.
How to freeze them? Place them in a single layer on a baking tray or plate and put them in the freezer just long enough for each cookie to freeze completely. Then, place the frozen cookies in a freezer-safe bag or container and keep them in the freezer for up to six months.

Snowball Kiss Cookies
Ingredients
- 1 cup unsalted butter softened
- 1/2 cup powdered sugar
- 1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 2 cups all purpose flour
- 1/8 teaspoon salt
- 28 chocolate kisses unwrapped
- 1 1/2 cup powdered sugar sifted for coating
Instructions
- In the bowl of a stand mixer, or using a handheld mixer, beat together the soft butter, powdered sugar, and vanilla with medium speed until creamed together.
- Drop the speed to low and carefully add in the flour and beat for about a minute until just combined. Cover the cookie dough bowl with plastic wrap or aluminum foil and refrigerate for 30 minutes.
- Preheat the oven to 350°F. Line two baking sheets with parchment paper.
- With a 1 tablespoon sized cookie scoop, scoop the dough. Roll it into a ball, then flatten it out with your hands making a small round disk. Place one of the kisses in the center and fold the dough up around the kiss. Try to round out the dough some.
- Place each dough ball 2 inches apart on the prepared cookie sheet.
- Bake for 10-12 minutes, until the bottoms are just turning brown but the cookie tops are still pale. It’s better to undercook than overcook them.
- Let cookies cool for about 5 minutes on the baking sheet. Roll each cookie in the powdered sugar and set on wire racks to cool completely. The first layer of powdered sugar will get melty. Once completely cool, roll each cookie in powdered sugar again.
Notes
- Don’t overmix the cookie dough. As you add the flour, stop mixing when it is completely combined, not much longer.
- As you spread the cookie dough around the chocolate kiss, make sure it’s covered evenly on all sides.
- Makes 24 cookies. Store the snowball cookies in an airtight container. Keep them at room temperature in a dark place like the pantry. They will stay fresh for about a week.
