Pampered Chef Broccoli Chicken Braid
Are you looking for a dinner recipe that your family is going to love? My neighbor passed me this amazing recipe and my kids get so excited every time I make it. It makes so much we always have leftovers.
If you have never had a chicken braid before, you have to try it. I mean who wouldn’t love a flakey roll with with cheesy sauce, fresh veggies, and flavorful dill.
Easy dinner ideas are the best and I am thrilled that this one is part of my collection. This recipe is made even quicker because it uses already cooked chicken breasts. You can use leftover chicken, I usually have chicken leftover because I love making extra when I’m cooking it to use later in the week.
Or try my favorite way to quickly cook chicken that is to make it in the air fryer. It only needs 15 minutes to cook and it’s done. This broccoli braid also uses prepackaged crescent rolls, but you could definitely make it from scratch if you have a recipe you love.
Chicken Broccoli Braid
I love how simple it is to put this recipe together. Even though it looks waaaay more difficult than it really is. It will look like you slaved away for hours in the kitchen. Chunks of cooked chicken breast, broccoli florets, and red bell pepper are all mixed up in a gooey mayonnaise cheese sauce. That’s then spooned into the middle of crescent roll dough sheets that has been rolled out flat. Cut the sides into strips and braid them over the stuffing. And bake it!!
The outcome will be this golden brown bread loaf with a beautiful braiding detail, sprinkled with toasted almonds and filled with tasty goodness.
I know that working with the dough may seem a little intimidating if you have never done it before, but you got this. Seriously the scariest thing about this whole process is opening the cans of crescent rolls, that pop scares me every. dang. time. Lol.
How to Braid Dough
Ok, this recipe totally looks more complicated than it is, so I want to make sure to explain how to layout and braid the crescent roll dough. It really is simple just follow these directions.
Step 1: After opening one package of crescent rolls, unroll it onto a large sheet of parchment paper or lightly floured work surface. The longest side needs to go from left to right not up and down.
Step 2: Pop open the second package of rolls and place alongside the dough you already laid out.
Step 3: Press all of the seams together so none of the filling leaks out. Lay filling down the center of the dough.
Step 4: Starting on one side of the dough, cut about one inch slices at a diagonal. You will need to make like 10 cuts.
Step 5: Start at one end. Pick up one strip and drape it across the filling slightly angling it backwards. Then come across the top of that strip with the corresponding strip on the opposite side. Keep working on each strip alternating each side.
Chicken and Broccoli Braid Ingredients
- Chicken: I use chicken breast that is leftover or I quickly make it in the air fryer.
- Broccoli: You will need about half of a small head of fresh broccoli, cut into florets. I like to make the pieces pretty small, but you can leave them bigger if you like.
- Bell Pepper: Only about half of a small bell pepper, I like to chop it into pretty small pieces.
- Cheese: Freshly grated sharp cheddar cheese.
- Mayonnaise: I’ve only made this with full fat mayonnaise, but you could use reduced fat mayo.
- Dill: Dried dill weed.
- Garlic: Fresh, minced garlic. If you love garlic you can use more than one clove.
- Salt: I like to use kosher or sea salt.
- Crescent Dough: This recipe calls for store bought refrigerated crescent rolls or sheets, but if you have a great recipe that you love.
- Egg White: One egg white from a large egg.
- Almonds: The recipe calls for slivered almonds but you could also use sliced almonds.
How to Make Chicken and Broccoli Braid
- Preheat your oven to 375°F. In a large bowl add in the broccoli florets, chicken breast chunks, red bell pepper, and garlic. Mix together well.
- Next, add in the cheese, mayo, salt, and dill. Combine gently.
- Spread out a large piece of parchment paper. Open one can of crescent rolls and unroll it onto the parchment so that the length runs from left to right.
- Open the next can of rolls and lay it right next to the first one. Press all of the seams together to ensure none of the filling leaks out. If you are using the crescent dough sheets you only have to press together the middle seam.
- Pour the filling into the center of the dough, keeping it about an inch away from the top and bottom.
- Starting on one side of the dough, cut it into 1-inch strips at a slight diagonal until you have about 10 strips. Repeat the same on the other side.
- At one end, pick up one of the strips and set across the filling. Then grab the strip on the opposing side and set it across the first strip. Make sure to seal any open gaps so that no filling leaks out. Continue down the whole length of the braid.
- Brush egg white on the dough with a pastry brush. Sprinkle on almonds.
- Bake for 20-22 minutes.
Broccoli Chicken Braid Tips and Variations
- Add 1/2 a cup of onions that have been sautéed to the filling.
- Keep the crescent dough refrigerated until you use it. Soft dough will be very hard to work with.
- Don’s separate the crescent rolls, you want to keep them in a whole sheet.
- Try using puff pastry instead of crescent rolls.
- Make your own dough to use for the wrap instead of pre-made dough.
- If you don’t like dried dill weed you can cut it in half or leave it out. Same with the bell pepper.
- I normally do very tiny broccoli florets, breaking up the huge pieces into way smaller ones, but you can leave them bigger if you like. You could even chop the broccoli very fine if you have a picky eater.
Storage Instructions
- How to Refrigerate Chicken Broccoli Braid: This chicken braid with crescent rolls definitely tastes best the first day when it is fresh. Let the braid cool and put in a glass container or BPA-free airtight plastic container or zipper bag. It should last about 2-3 days in the fridge.
- How to Reheat: Reheat cold braid in the microwave for a few minutes at a time until desired warmth is reached.

Maureen
Can you freeze it
Tristin
I haven’t ever frozen this chicken braid before, we rarely have leftovers of it, lol. The cheese and mayo in there may not freeze so well and once thawed might not have the best consistency. But, I have never tried it. If you do freeze it, let me know how it turns out and I will add the information to the post. Thanks Maureen!
