We all need a great dip recipe as our “go to” during special events or when company decides to stop by unannounced. This dip is easy to throw together at the last minute and I usually have all of these staple ingredients in my fridge at all times.

Pickle lovers are going to love this dip because it’s packed with chunks of dill pickles and flavor. We are huge pickle fans that’s why we have this dill pickle sauce that doubles as a dip that you may also love.

This dip is perfect for football season because it is so simple to make and it’s a crowd pleaser. And no special equipment is needed just a bowl and a spoon! Another great dip to try is this easy spinach dip.

What is Pickle Wrap Dip?

If you have ever had the ham pickle roll-ups appetizer, then you will have an idea of what this dill pickle dip is all about. If you have never had those dill pickle wraps, they are whole pickles surrounded by cream cheese, wrapped in a piece of ham or beef and sliced into bite-sized chunks.

It has all of the flavors of that easy appetizer, but this is a fun twist that’s all mixed together into a dippable consistency instead.

Just soften some cream cheese and chop a few ingredients. Mix it all together with sour cream, chopped pickles, some flavorings and you will have dip in a matter of minutes.

What to Serve with Dill Pickle Dip

There are so many great ideas to use here. Here are some that we love, let me know if you have more dippers that you like to use in dip.

  • Crackers. There are a wide variety available, pick your favorite cracker. Try saltine crackers, club crackers, wheat thins, ritz crackers, woven wheat crackers.
  • Bread. Put this dip in a bread bowl and use the inside as a dippable. Or use naan, flour tortillas, pita bread, French bread, beer bread, or toast up baguette slices.
  • Chips. Serve this dip with any chip you can imagine! Tortilla chips, corn chips, pita chips, or potato chips.
  • Vegetables. Make a crudités (pronounced kroo-dee-teh), which is a tray of veggies that are ready to be dunked into dip. Think cauliflower, carrots sticks, bell peppers, radishes, celery sticks, or cucumber slices.
  • Pretzels. Heat up some large soft pretzels or homemade pretzel bites. Or from the grocery store buy a bag of pretzel rods, miniature pretzels, or pretzel sticks.
  • Alongside meats. Make to go with deli turkey, ham, or roast beef. It would be excellent with brats or chicken sausage.
  • As a sauce. You can even put this dip on things like sandwiches, hamburgers, or hot dogs.

Pickle Wrap Dip Ingredients

Here are the simple ingredients to make this savory dip. Check out the recipe card at the bottom of this post for the full ingredient amounts.

  • Cream Cheese: Forms the creamy base for this dip. You can use whipped cream cheese or block cream cheese. Pull the block of cream cheese out of the fridge like 30 minutes to an hour in advance to soften.
  • Sour Cream: Adds some tang and some creaminess. I like to use full fat sour cream, but low fat sour cream will also work.
  • Deli Meat: There are a couple of options here for you to use. I use Buddig thin sliced smoked beef or their corned beef. You can also use a 2.25 ounce jar of dried beef. Dill pickle wraps are often made with deli ham, so that is definitely a great option.
  • Pepper: Freshly ground black pepper will give the best flavor.
  • Garlic Powder: Adds a little punch of garlic flavor.
  • Dill Pickles: Brings crunch and saltiness to the dip. Chop whole dill pickles into small pieces.
All of the ingredients needed to make dill pickle dip.

How to Make Pickle Wrap Dip

Here are the instructions to make this easy dip recipe.

STEP 1: Dice up the beef into small pieces.

STEP 2: In a medium bowl mix together the softened cream cheese and sour cream.

STEP 3: Add in the meat, pepper, garlic powder, and dill pickles. Combine cream cheese mixture until all of the ingredients are well mixed.

STEP 4: Enjoy right away or put in the fridge for an hour for flavors to meld.

Step by step instructions of how to make pickle dip.

How to Quickly Soften Cream Cheese

I often forget to pull cream cheese out of the fridge early when I need it softened. It’s no big deal if you forget, too. If you are using a block of cream cheese follow these directions. (If using whipped cream cheese there is no need to pull it out of the fridge early.)

You can cut the block into small dices and place spaced out on a plate to warm up quicker. Or place the block on a microwave safe plate. Microwave at 30% power for 10-15 seconds at a time until softened.

What is Dried Beef?

Dried beef is similar to beef jerky, but they are not exactly the same. They are both beef that have been dried, but dried beef is normally sliced thinly and jarred with not a lot of extra seasonings. Beef jerky is normally a thicker cut and is seasoned. Using beef jerky from a bag won’t be the same as using jarred dried beef.

You don’t have to use dried beef, thinly sliced lunch meat is also good in this dip.

Tips for Success

  • It’s easy to double this recipe if you are serving a bigger crowd.
  • You can eat this dip as soon as it’s mixed, but if you want to really blend the flavors cover it with plastic wrap and pop it into the refrigerator for an hour.
  • If dip has been sitting for a while just stir it to re-combine ingredients.
  • Choosing good quality ingredients will give you the best results.
  • Experiment with different flavors like adding in a little onion powder or Worcestershire sauce.

Recipe Variations

  • Make it spicy pickle wrap dip. Add in chopped jalapeños (with or without the seeds), 1/4 teaspoon chipotle powder, a splash of hot sauce, or pickled jalapeños.
  • Pickle chunks. If you like smaller pieces of pickle, chop them into small chunks or use a food processor.
  • Thin the dip. If the dip is too thick you can thin it out with pickle juice or pickle brine.
  • Use different pickles. Use sour dill pickles or sweet pickles.
  • Switch it up for relish. Use a jar of dill pickle relish instead of using whole pickles.
  • Add bacon crumbles. Cook up a couple bacon slices, crumble it up and add it to the dip.
  • Add cheese. Want even cheesier dip? Add some shredded cheddar cheese to the dip.
  • Topping options. Top with more pickle chunks, fresh dill, chopped green onions, or fresh chives.
  • Serving suggestions. Serve it in a bread bowl or you can add it to crackers and serve that as an appetizer.
