Easiest and Tastiest Appetizer
Are you looking for the easiest, tastiest appetizer ever? Well, you have come to the right place! These caprese salad skewers are the easiest appetizers to put together. This is the perfect appetizer to make with kids, it’s easy for their little hands and fun, too!
Simply take a toothpick, poke through a tomato, basil leaf, then mozzarella ball. Drizzle with olive oil, sprinkle with salt and pepper. Take the flavor a step further by drizzling on balsamic glaze. I love that this is a bite-sized version of a caprese salad. So cute!
This is one of my go-to appetizers, especially when I’m short on time.
Traditional caprese salads in Italy are only topped with salt, pepper, and a really good extra-virgin olive oil. They don’t include balsamic glaze as a topping. I love balsamic vinegar and I like the glaze on my caprese, it adds an extra layer of delicious, in-depth flavor.
Tomatoes, Basil, and Fresh Mozzarella
For the best flavor, I typically like to make this caprese salad recipe when tomatoes are in-season, which is the start of May till the end of September. I usually get mine (I used small cherry tomatoes) at my local farmer’s market. They always have tastiest, beautiful, bright red tomatoes!
But sometimes, you don’t have the option of getting them at your farmer’s market and you have to settle for grocery store tomatoes because it’s November and you still desperately want to make these caprese skewers. I can still find pretty yummy tomatoes, even in the winter!
I love that this is a bite-sized version of a caprese salad. So cute!
I can’t think of a combination of flavors that is better than tomatoes and basil. Then you add in the fresh mozzarella, olive oil, and balsamic glaze. SO GOOD!! The flavors come alive in your mouth. And just look at them, aren’t they pretty…
Caprese Salad Ingredients

- Basil: Fresh basil leaves.
- Mozzarella: The small balls of fresh mozzarella.
- Olive Oil: A good quality extra-virgin olive oil
- Salt: Kosher or Sea Salt.

- Balsamic Glaze: Make your own or use store bought.
How to Make Caprese Salad Skewers
- Using a 3-inch long toothpick, poke through a small tomato, a small leaf of basil, and small ball of mozzarella cheese.
- Continue making skewers until all of the ingredients are gone.
- Top the completed skewers with extra-virgin olive oil, balsamic reduction or balsamic vinegar, salt, and pepper.
Caprese Salad Skewers Tips
- Use store-bought balsamic glaze/reduction instead of using making your own to save time.
- Use a good quality Extra-Virgin Olive Oil that’s cold-pressed. Since this is going to be drizzled right on the food, you will really be able to taste the olive oil flavor.
- This recipe makes about 12 skewers, but you can easily make more.
