Homemade Stuffed Garlic Bread Recipe
The easiest way into my heart is with bread. Bring me a loaf of bread and you will see me grinning from ear to ear. Am I feeling depressed? Yes, bring bread. Am I feeling happy? Yes, let us celebrate with bread! Any feelings in between there? YES, make sure to bring bread!
Plain bread is great, but Stuffed Garlic Cheese Bread is EVEN BETTER!
Making that bread with lots of hot, gooey, melted cheese and loads of fresh garlic and bring that to me, I will be your friend FOR LIFE!
And you know what’s even better? This recipe gets some major brownie points for being so simple and easy to make.
Garlic Cheesy Bread
This garlicky bread is made with TWO types of cheeses, melty mozzarella and salty parmesan. You can shred the mozzarella yourself or use slices of mozzarella (they come pre-sliced in an 8 oz package or just slice it up).

While, the cheese on this cheesy bread is good, the star of the show for me is the garlic! If you know me, you know that I love garlic aka this roasted garlic in the air fryer and this garlic and potato soup. You can even try garlic bread in a crock pot!
Garlic is just so good and when you smell this garlic bread cooking in the oven it is going to make your mouth water!
PRO TIP! Use a garlic press to quickly “mince” all of the garlic (you don’t have to peel any of the garlic just pop the clove in and squeeze). Try to buy a good quality one to make sure it works well. If you don’t have a garlic press, buy the bag of already peeled garlic, it will save you peeling time.
Why make this Cheesy Garlic Bread Recipe?
- Easy for kids. This is a great recipe for kids (even little kids) to help with. They will need help with the cutting, but it should be easy for them to spread the cheesy garlic butter or put cheese slices into the bread.
- Versatile bread. This recipe makes some great garlic bread as written. But, it is easy to customize, too. Add your favorite herbs or spices to make it your own, even change the cheeses to use your favorite ones. Even use more or less garlic cloves.
What’s the Best Bread to use for Garlic Bread?
It is definitely not a requirement to make the bread from scratch just to get great garlic bread. You are, of course, welcome to try your hand at making your own homemade bread with this easy recipe. But, we don’t always have that much free time to mess with active dry yeast and bread dough.
You can definitely make amazing garlic bread just using a loaf that you get from the bakery section at the grocery store.

French bread is ideal because it stays super fluffy on the inside and gets nice and crisp on the outside. It is the perfect bread to soak up all the garlic buttery goodness without getting overly mushy.
I have made this recipe with a loaf of ciabatta bread and Italian bread. I don’t recommend using a French baguette though, it isn’t fat enough and it will end up too tough.
Garlic Butter Spread Ingredients
Only a few ingredients are needed to make homemade garlic bread this is garlic, butter, cheese, seasonings, and definitely a bread loaf. Using high quality ingredients will ensure that you get the best garlic bread. Full ingredients are at the bottom of this post in the recipe card.
- Butter: Unsalted butter that has been brought to room temperature.
- Garlic: Fresh garlic is a must to get the bold garlicky flavor you need for this garlic bread. Use more or less as you like.
- Oil: Use a great quality extra virgin olive oil.
- Parsley: Fresh, chopped parsley leaves.
- Salt: A little salt will help bring out the flavors of the garlic bread.
- Pepper: Freshly ground pepper will give the best flavor.
- Cheese: This recipe uses a combination of cheese, mozzarella cheese and parmesan cheese. You can slice the mozzarella into slices to stick in between the bread or shred it. It is best to hand shred the cheese yourself than to get the stuff that is pre-shredded.

How to Make Garlic Bread
Full directions are at the bottom of this post in the recipe card.
- Preheat oven. Preheat the oven to 425°F and pull out a baking tray.
- Cut bread. Set the bread loaf on a cutting board. Using a serrated knife cut the bread into 1 1/2-2 inch thick slices making sure not to cut all the way through (leave about 1/2 inch uncut at the bottom of the loaf).
- Mix garlic spread. In a small bowl, add in softened butter, minced garlic, chopped parsley, olive oil, salt, pepper, and shredded cheeses. Mix well.
- Stuff bread. Stuff the herb butter mixture in between bread slices (add sliced mozzarella cheese in after, if using). To split the butter into more equal portions for the whole loaf, flatten out the mixture and draw a line down the center of it.
- Bake bread. Wrap the bread in aluminum foil and place on baking sheet. Uncover the bread and cook for 5 minutes to make the bread a golden brown.

What Goes with Stuffed Garlic Bread?
This delicious side dish pairs with just about everything. Here are some of our favorite ways to serve garlic bread.
- Soups. Probably our favorite way to eat this bread is dipped into a hearty bowl of soup. Try it with Tortellini Sausage Soup, Italian Lentil Soup, or Healthy Broccoli Cheddar Soup.
- Pasta. Serve it with your lasagna, pasta bake, or favorite pasta dish and use it to sop up that marinara sauce.
- Protein. Cheese bread makes the perfect accompaniment to main dishes like Air Fryer Pork Chops, Air Fryer Chicken Breast, London Broil, or Air Fryer Cornish Hen.
- Eat it on it’s own! Yes it is a meal all on its own.
Best Cheesy Bread Recipe Tips and Variation
- Freshly grated. Use freshly grated mozzarella cheese and parmesan cheese for the best meltyness. I don’t recommend using the powdered pre-grated parmesan cheese.
- Lemon zest. For a pop of freshness, add the zest of one lemon to the butter mixture.
- More garlic. Want even more garlic flavor? Add a sprinkling or about 1/4 – 1/2 teaspoon of garlic powder to the garlic mixture.
- Different cheeses. I love the stretchiness of mozzarella, but if you want there are other cheeses you can use like cheddar cheese, asiago cheese, cream cheese, pepper jack cheese, or Monterrey jack cheese.
- Make it spicy. Use a spicy cheese or add a sprinkling of red chili flakes into the cheese mixture.
- Make it Italian. Add Italian herbs for a punch of Italian flavor.
- Butter. Pull out the butter about 2 hours before making this recipe to make sure it is soft. If you forget, get slightly melted butter by microwaving it for 20-30 seconds.
- Add extra shredded cheese. Add a nice layer of cheese to the top of the bread before baking to have a generous amount of melty cheese on top. Add about 1/4-1/2 cup of shredded cheese.
