- 1 large egg
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon ground
- 1/4 cup milk
- 3 slices bread
For the Spiced Syrup (optional)
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1 cup syrup
In a shallow bowl, whisk together egg, vanilla, and cinnamon. Whisk in the milk and mix until well combined.
Dip the bread into the mixture, flipping over to coat both sides.
Heat up a skillet or griddle, lightly grease the pan.
Shake off any excess egg mixture and place the bread into the hot skillet.
Cook until go one side has browned, then flip over and brown the other side.
To make optional spiced syrup mix together the cinnamon, vanilla extract, and syrup together. Warm it up in microwave if desired.
Serve the French toast with butter and your choice of toppings.
- Keeping French toast warm. If you are making French toast for a crowd, you can keep the French toast warm in the oven. Just preheat the oven to 170°F and put a baking sheet in it to warm. Place cooked toast slices onto the baking sheet in a single layer and place into the oven.
- Make your own stale bread. If you want to you can make your bread more "crusty" or "stale" by popping it into the toaster for a bit to dry it out. Just don't leave it in there too long or it will brown.
- French toast will last in an airtight container in the refrigerator for 3-4 days.
