Spiced Rum Apple Cider
Sipping on hot apple cider is one of my favorite ways to stay toasty in the winter. It being spiked with spiced rum just makes it that much better!!
Stay warm and cozy during this chilly season with this hot apple cider cocktail. Full of spice and just sweet enough. Every sip of this rum apple cider will warm you with fresh apple, spiced cinnamon, a touch of allspice, and of course, the rum.
This hot spiked apple cider recipe is great because you can easily make a big batch all at once if you need to double (or triple) it for holiday parties and gatherings! You could also cut in half, if there are just two of you enjoying this flavorful, hot apple cider.
Whether you are outside around your bonfire toasting up marshmallows or sitting inside snuggled by the fireplace, this apple cider drink will warm you from the inside out.
This apple cider cocktail recipe is super easy to make. Simply throw in a pinch of allspice, whole cinnamon and cloves to a good quality apple juice. Let the whole cinnamon sticks and cloves simmer and steep in the apple goodness. Sift out all the spices, pour into mugs with a little rum, and top with whipped cream! Tasty beverage in no time at all.
Rum Apple Cider Cocktail Ingredients
- Apple Juice: Unfiltered apple juice, it will look a little cloudy. This one has no other added ingredients and is not from concentrate.
- Cinnamon Sticks: You will need 3 cinnamon sticks.
- Cloves: Use whole cloves.
- Allspice: Ground allspice.
- Spiced Rum: I use Sailor Jerry’s (it’s our favorite), but any spiced rum will work.
- Whipped Cream: Make your own or use store bought.
How to Make Spiked Apple Cider
- In a saucepan, combine apple juice with the cinnamon sticks, whole cloves, and allspice. Bring to a simmer for about 10 minutes.
- Taste the apple cider, if you are happy with the level of spice, then you can strain out the cinnamon sticks and cloves with a slotted spoon or mesh strainer. Stir in vanilla extract.
- Divide evenly into 6 mugs. Add 1/4 cup (or desired amount) of spiced rum to each and top with whipped cream.
Hot Spiked Apple Cider Recipe Tips
- Use good quality unfiltered apple juice or apple cider.
- Kids can drink the apple cider (without the alcohol, of course) topped with whipped cream.
Storage Instructions for Apple Cider
- How to Refrigerate Apple Cider: Let the apple cider cool completely and put in a glass container or BPA-free airtight plastic container or zipper bag. Make sure to store before adding the spiced rum or whipped cream. The apple cider should last about 7-10 days in the fridge from the day it was opened.
- How to Reheat Apple Cider: Reheat cold apple cider in the microwave for a minute at a time until desired warmth is reached. Or on the stove until it is warmed. Serve with 1/4 cup spiced rum and whipped cream.
